3 Signs That Your Child Needs A Tutor

Working with a tutor sooner rather than later can make a huge impact on a student’s overall success. A tutor can help a child establish a strong academic foundation, increase confidence, and help them reach their fullest potential. Parents need to know the signs when it’s the right time to hire a tutor.

1. Grades Are Slipping:

This may seem obvious but you will be surprised that many parents wait until their child is failing a class before enlisting the help of a tutor. If your child’s grades are slipping, it is important to find out the reason why. Has your child missed some assignments that have resulted in his grades slipping? Or does your son have difficulty with some core concepts that are resulting in a decrease in grades?

Finding the root of the cause will help you determine the need for a tutor. A tutor can help your child stay organized, develop strong study skills, and help with specific subject skills.

2. Trouble with Homework:

Homework isn’t always easy or enjoyed by many students. However, if your child is putting homework off or complaining to do homework, there may be deeper issue. Oftentimes, the homework struggle can be rooted with an area of difficulty.

A tutor can help identify the areas of need surrounding homework time. They can aid a student with homework management and specific content. A tutor can help eliminate much of the stress surrounding homework.

3. Lack of Motivation or Interest:
If your child is showing a sudden lack of interest or motivation in school or homework, this can be a tell-tale sign that your child is struggling in some areas academically. You may want to ask them what is going on, or reach out to the classroom teacher to find out if they have noticed the change in your child. Oftentimes students can benefit from a tutor for a few weeks to help them get “back on track.”

A student’s academic needs are very important and should never be taken for granted. Be mindful of these signs, as they can be a red flag that your child would benefit from working with a tutor in order to get back on track. Working with a tutor will help your child establish positive learning habits and create a path for success.
